Solid Showing at BYU Robison Invitational

PROVO, UT – The Wildcats took a trip to Provo this weekend to compete at the BYU Robison Invitational. Athletes battled the weather and delivered some record marks during the four days of competition.
 
The multis group of Caleb Whitney, Reece Gardner, Jed Smith, and Ryan Talbot got things going on Wednesday with the decathlon where Caleb Whitney showed a level of dominance by finishing top-5 in every event, top- 3 in seven of ten, and earning a #3 WSU all-time score of 7213. Whitney finished first in 3 events, including setting a PR and #8 WSU all-time 14.30 in the 110m hurdles. Whitney also set PRs in the 100m dash, the long jump, and the discus. His score ranks #29 in the NCAA this season.
 
Reece Gardner finished fourth in the decathlon with a score of 6378 with a first-place finish in the pole vault by clearing a PR and #10 WSU all-time mark of 15-11.00. Gardner also set new PRs in the high jump, 400m dash, and the 1500.
 
Jed Smith finished fifth in the decathlon with a score of 6367 with two third-place finishes coming in the pole vault and the 1500.
 
The competition continued Friday with the individual events with Alex Wheeler finishing seventh in the 100m dash with a PR time of 10.67 which ranks sixth in the Big Sky this season. Wheeler also set a PR in the 200m dash at 21.21 in a third-place finish and moving to #6 on the WSU all-time list.
 
G Kire Goulding ran 14.91 in the 110m hurdles to finish third in the meet. Next, Goulding set a PR in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.66.
 
Rodee Brow finished with a time of 48.66 in the 400m dash to finish ninth in the meet.

Brow and Smith set PRs in the pole vault with a #9 WSU all-time height of 16-00.25 in a strong performance for both of them. 
 
Wheeler, Goulding, and Brow were joined by Johnie Talamantes in the 4x100 relay to finish fourth in competition. The team currently sits third in the Big Sky.
 
Two athletes finished high in the 800 meters with Hanokh Gailson finishing second at 1:53.16 and Bryce Anderson finishing just after him at 1:54.00.
 
In the 1600, two freshman competed with each earning PRs. Ben Ricks ran 4:20.61, and Alex Harbertson ran 4:30.15.
 
Nathaniel Garner earned a PR in the 3000m steeplechase with a seventh-place finishing time of 9:46.28.
 
Xakai Harry earned a season-best in the long jump with a mark of 24-04.50 which would be number 3 in the Big Sky this season.
 
In the javelin Cody Canard finished first with a throw of 209.03, and Josh Trafny threw 190-05.75. 
 
The team will head to Idaho next week to compete in the Bengal Invitational at Idaho State University in the last regular season competition before championships begin with the Big Sky Conference Championships on May 10 in Greeley, CO.
