Wildcats Fall in Non-Conference Action

OREM, Utah -- Sarah Conner scored a career-high 20 points on Tuesday night and three other Wildcats recorded double-doubles, but it was not enough as Utah Valley defeated Weber State (6-14) 81-73 at the McKay Center.
Sandy Wall and Robyn Fairbanks combined
to score 49 points to lead Utah Valley (9-8) to the win. Wall was perfect on three attempts from
beyond the arc and finished with a game-high 26 points. Fairbanks joined in with
23 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks.
Julie McMurray also had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Asumi Nakayama finished with seven points and nine assists.
Sarah Conner's 20 points led the Wildcats and was a career-high total for the junior college transfer from Guernsey, Wyo. The junior guard hit six 3-pointers in the game and shot 7 for 19 from the field overall. Tonya Schnibbe had 10 points and 13 assists, Karlee
Weight finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Caitlin Anderson had
10 points and 12 rebounds. Weight's 10 points and 10 rebounds were also career-high's.
Weber State was able to stay in the game thanks to Conner's shooting and to 20 offensive rebounds, leading to 18 second chance points.
The Wolverines led by as much as 16 in the second half, but the Wildcats never went away. Weber State got within five, 74-69, with 1:40 left before UVU was able to get to the free throw line to close out the game and even up the all-time series at two wins apiece.
In the first half Utah Valley trailed 19-18 at the 9:49 mark before a 13-0 run over the next five minutes and 20 seconds gave the Wolverines a 31-19 advantage. UVU carried a 39-28 lead into half time when Wall knocked down a three with four seconds left before the break.
For the game Utah Valley shot 50.9 percent (29-for-57) from the field while Weber State hit 28-for-79 (35.4 percent). Both teams took care of the ball, each turning it over just eight times.
The Wildcats will return to Big Sky play on Saturday, Jan. 31 as they take on Idaho State in Pocatello at 7:00 p.m.
