'Cats Head to Laramie to Face Cowgirls

Wildcats Drop Big Sky Opener

BOZEMAN, Mont. -- The Weber State women's basketball team (6-8) opened the 2010 Big Sky season on a down note, falling 82-62 to Montana State in a New Year's Day contest at Worthington Arena.

The Wildcats trailed by only a single point with 8:24 left in the opening half, but the Bobcats closed the period with a 19-7 run to take a 41-28 lead into the locker room.

Montana State used another 11-1 run midway through the second half to push out to a 24-point lead, and the Wildcats would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

The Bobcats shot 48 percent for the game (53 percent in the second half), compared to 35 percent for the Wildcats (29.6 percent in the second half).

Tonya Schnibbe led the Wildcats with 16 points, behind 12 of 14 shooting from the line, but hit just 2 of 10 shots from the field. Schnibbe's backup, Caela Mohre, scored a career-high 13 points, behind 4 of 7 shooting from the field.

Katie Bussey led four Bobcats in double figures, with her game-high 25 points. Erica Perry added 16 points, Rachel Semansky added 12, and Sarah Strand chipped in with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Wildcats will turn around and face the University of Montana on Saturday, Jan. 2 at 7:00 p.m.
