BOISE, Idaho - A slow start proved costly for the Wildcats in their first official game under new head coach Bethann Ord.

Despite landing three players in double figures scoring, led by senior forward/center Mikell Woodfield's 17 points, the Weber State University women's basketball team couldn't overcome a large first-half deficit, falling 86-68 to Boise State on Sunday afternoon at Taco Bell Arena.

Woodfield, playing just a couple of hours from her hometown of La Grande, Oregon, had 17 points and eight rebounds, leading the Wildcats in both categories.

Junior forward Amanda Hughes added 13 points for Weber State in 19 minutes off the bench, while junior shooting guard Megan Patterson had 11 points and four assists for the Wildcats (0-1).

Junior forward Shawnte Taylor, making her debut in a Purple and White uniform, added nine points and five rebounds, while senior point guard Caela Mohre had six points and five assists.

Boise State (2-0) was led by Kati Esham's 18 points, while Heath Pilcher added 16 for the Broncos.

The Wildcats hung close early, trailing only 13-10 after a free throw by Woodfield, but Boise State used a 28-10 scoring surge over the next 10 minutes to push out to a 47-25 lead at halftime.

Weber State battled in the second half and twice cut the deficit to 16 points, but the Wildcats were unable cut it any closer, despite winning the second half 43-39.

Weber State will return to action on Wednesday when it travels north to face in-state rival Utah State at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
