The Weber State women's basketball team fell to in-state foe Southern Utah, 74-61, on Saturday afternoon at the Dee Events Center.

The Wildcats were led by freshman guard Des Ramos who finished with 11 points, but the visiting Thunderbirds had three players with 14 points in the game.

Southern Utah's leading scorer on the season, Hailey Mandelko was one of them. The other two were Carli Moreland and Kimie Hawkins.

What was a very close game through most of the first half, turned into a blowout when the Wildcats went four minutes early in the second half without scoring. That four-minute scoreless stretch was part of an 18-2 run by the Thunderbirds over the first eight minutes of the second half.

Southern Utah had two players with six rebounds, which led the game. Moreland and Desiree Jackson both had six rebounds.

Weber State's leading rebounders were Brianna Averette and Regina Okoye who both finished with four boards each.

Southern Utah outscored Weber State in the paint, 42-24. The Thunderbird bench also outscored Weber State's, 30-28.

Both teams were relatively even in turnovers, with the Thunderbirds turning it over 25 times to the Wildcats' 26.

The Wildcats were outrebounded by the same margin as the game. The Thunderbirds pulled down 44 rebounds while the Wildcats pulled down 31.

Weber State shot it pretty well at 40.4 percent in the game. Southern Utah shot 41.3 percent from the floor in the game.

The Wildcats will host Idaho State on Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
