Las Cruces, NM – The Weber State University women's basketball team won 100-97 in a double overtime thriller to New Mexico State in the first game of the annual Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic.

"It was a great team effort tonight," said senior guard Brianna Averette. "We battled when we got down. We stayed poised and played together."

WSU fell behind early in the first half but kept the score with in six throughout the half. The Wildcats were only trailing 35-34 going into halftime. With two minutes to go in the second half the Wildcats were trailing by 12, but they came back and tied the game at 75-75 to end regulation play and send the game into overtime. The first overtime was neck and neck, and with a tie game at the end of five minutes the two teams went into double overtime where Weber State ended up with a 100-97 victory over the Aggies.

“They (NMSU) threw everything at us,” said Weber State head coach Bethann Ord. “For us to come in here and get this victory was huge.”

Weber State had five athletes in double figures. Senior guard, Brianna Averette led the team with a career high of 21 points and four assists. Junior Regina Okoye had 12 points, junior Jalen Carpenter had a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Kailie Quinn contributed 20 points and freshman Sira Toure added a career high of 12. Freshman Jocelyn Adams had a career high of six points.

“I am so proud of these girls,” Ord said. “We were pressuring them and attacking them and we did what we needed to. Having people come in off the bench and play aggressively really helped us earn this win”

The Aggies out rebounded the Wildcats 60-45. Weber State only had 20 turnovers on the night compared to New Mexico State's 32. Weber State shot 42 percent from the field and 59 percent from the free-throw line.
