In a back-and-forth game, Sacramento State pulled away from the Weber State women's basketball team late for a 111-104 win.

The Hornets are the highest scoring offense in the Big Sky thanks to a full-court press and up-tempo, three-point shooting offense. The 111-point performance is the largest scoring output in Big Sky Conference history.

“It's really hard to simulate in practice,” head coach Bethann Ord said. “But we have to carry it over from practice into the game.”

Weber State's 104 points was the second most the Cats have scored this season and the tied for the third-most they've scored in program history. The 215 total points was also the most combined points between two teams in conference history.

The Wildcats kept up with Sacramento State until about the 11-minute mark when the Hornets hit a flurry of three-pointers to pull away.

“We were really happy about the urgency we played with,” Ord said.

Sophomore forward Kalie Matthews had her best game of the season, pouring in 22 points, going 9-for-9 from the floor. Matthews was also the game's leading rebounder with 15 boards.

Five other Wildcats scored in double figures. Zakkiyah Shahid-Martin had 16 while Brianna Averette had 14, Desiree Ramos had 13 and both Amanda Hughes and Jalen Carpenter added 12.

Weber State outrebounded the Hornets 51-36 and dominated the game in the paint, outscoring Sacramento State, 58-32 inside.

The Hornets were 18-for-48 from behind the arc while the Wildcats were just 2-for-6.

This was the best shooting performance of the year for the Wildcats who shot 61.2 percent from the field. Meanwhile Sacramento State went 36-for-85 from the floor to shoot 42.4 percent.

The biggest difference in the game came on turnovers. The Cats turned it over 28 times to the Hornets' 10. That led to a 30-13 points off of turnover margin for Sacramento State.

The Cats will head back on the road now, playing at North Dakota on Thursday night and at Northern Colorado on Saturday afternoon.
