Wildcats open Big Sky play at Eastern Washington

Second-half comeback falls short for Cats at UNC

The Weber State women's basketball team fell short in another would-be comeback effort. The Cats fell at Northern Colorado, 70-63, after trailing by as many as 21 points in the second half.

The Wildcats made a furious comeback attempt late in the second half but it was too little, too late. Weber State crawled to within five points with a couple minutes left but couldn't break that barrier.

Weber State had three players in double figures, led by sophomore guard Desiree Ramos. Ramos was back to her usual self, scoring 18 points on the night. Right behind her was sophomore guard Regina Okoye who poured in 17 points.

Senior forward Amanda hughes added 16 points of her own, but it wasn't enough to overcome the big Northern Colorado deficit. The Wildcats struggled from the floor, shooting 37 percent in the game. Meanwhile, the Bears shot 56 percent from the floor in the game.

The Bears were led by Kyleigh Hiser who scored 22 points. Leading scorer, Stephanie Lee added 18 points for Northern Colorado.

Northern Colorado went 21-28 from the free throw line while the Cats were 12-24.

The biggest difference in the game came on the glass, where the Bears outrebounded the Wildcats 41-28.

The Wildcats picked up 10 steals in the game to UNC's four.

Weber State will now return home for four games in row, starting on Saturday with a matchup against Southern Utah. That tip time is set for 2 p.m.
