OGDEN, Utah – A disappointing first half set a bad tone for the Wildcats.

The Weber State University women's soccer team dropped a 4-3 decision to the University of Hawai'i in overtime on Friday afternoon at Wildcat Soccer Field.

“It seemed like the past couple weeks caught up to us, and fatigue was an issue,” Weber State coach Tim Crompton said. “However, we bounced back in the second half, and we put ourselves in a position to find a result. We have a determined group of players, nevertheless it is difficult to win games with a performance like we had in the first half.

“I am confident they will learn from today's game.”

Hawai'i, which improved to 3-4-0, outshot Weber State (3-2-0) 14-11 for the match, including an 8-6 clip in the first half that could've been worse if not for some momentum in the later stages of the half.

The Rainbow Wahine took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute on Sonest Furtado's goal from 15-yards out that snuck just inside the right post.

Weber State leveled the match at 1-1 on Stacy Bair's penalty kick in the 24th minute after Hawai'i was called for handling in the box. Bair evenly stepped to the spot and smashed her shot to the lower left corner of the net. It was Bair's second goal of the season.

Hawai'i regained the lead in the 29th minute on a goal from Storm Kenui off an assist from Furtado, and things when from bad to worse for the Wildcats in the 32nd minute when a Rainbow Wahine cross deflected off the leg of a Weber State defender and into the net to put the visitors up 3-1.

With just over a minute remaining in the first half, redshirt freshman Alexa MacGoldrick drew a foul past the halfway line, and junior central defender Brecken Holbrook lofted the ensuing kick into the box where senior midfielder Mackenzie Peck headed it just inside the right post to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Peck's goal and the halftime break just moments after re-energized the Wildcats, who played markedly better in the second half.

The Wildcats completed the comeback from two-goals down in the 72nd minute when junior defender Marissa Cook played a short pass to senior defender Ryley Hansen, who deftly timed a lob over the Rainbow Wahine back line and junior forward Mackenzie Harrison raced onto it, easily placing a shot around the Hawai'i goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation to level it 3-3.

Hawai'i captured the win just 30 seconds into the overtime period when Kama Pascua's hard shot came off the gloves of Weber State goalkeeper Sydnie Stokes, and T.J. Reyno crashed the goal and punched in the ensuing rebound to end the match.

Weber State will be back in action on Sunday against UTEP. The Miners (5-1-1) suffered their first loss of the season on Friday night, falling 2-0 to Utah Valley in Orem, Utah.
