Montana State defeats Wildcats 62-54

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State took advantage of Weber State women's basketball team's slow start and the Wildcats fell 62-54 to Montana State Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats struggled the first half with ending the half 37-23. The second half the Wildcats came out hot making 11 unanswered points and brought the score to 37-31. The Wildcats held the Bobcats to only three field goals until 12:04 left in the game and the Wildcats only trailed 43-42. Montana State then went on an 11-4 run that gave them the momentum to solidify the 62-54 victory over Weber State.
"We had a slow start," Head Coach Bethann Ord said. " We weren't as aggressive as we always are in the first half and we've got to step that up in the next few games."
Junior Regina Okoye led the Wildcats with 18 points. She also had five rebounds and six steals. Jalen Carpenter led the Wildcats in rebounding pulling down nine. Junior Brittney Dunbar added eight points on the afternoon.
Weber State shot 40.4 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from the three and 50 percent from the free throw line. Montana State shot 43.6 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from beyond the arc and 76.9 percent from the free throw line. Weber State pulled down 27 rebounds to Montana State's 44. The Bobcats turned the ball over 20 times to the Wildcats 14.
"We will be working on our shooting this week in practice," Ord said. "We are a good team but we have to get mentally tougher. We have to be confident in our ability to score. We have to do better at the little things because they do matter."
The Wildcats have now dropped to 0-4 in the Big Sky and will continue conference play this week by hosting Northern Arizona Thursday, January 15 at 7 p.m. at the Dee Events Center and Southern Utah Saturday January 17, at 2 p.m.
