Wildcat softball signs nine players to NLIs

OGDEN – The Weber State University softball team and head coach Mary Kay Amicone are pleased to announce the signing of nine players as part of the Wildcats' 2016 recruiting class.

Signing with the Purple and White are Anjalee Batchelor, Raeana Gall, Landi Hawker, Jordan Lockhart, Courtney Pestka, Takesha Saltern, Juliana Tricarico, Ashlyn Visser, and Sydney White. Gall is a junior college transfer from Salt Lake Community College, while the other eight players will be freshmen. Six of the players are members of the Salt Lake City-based Pegasus club.

“I'm very excited about our incoming 2016 class,” Amicone said. “What stands out to me about this group is their athleticism and passion to compete. It's an extremely versatile group of student-athletes. I love their overall speed, work ethic, and determination that each of these new Wildcats bring. They have tremendous character and ambition to contribute to our softball program and Weber State University.”

Batchelor, out of Stansbury High School in Stansbury, Utah, is a 5-foot-8 infielder. She was a First Team All-State selection and helped her high school team win three straight Utah 3-A state championships. Batchelor plays her club softball for Pegasus.

Gall, out of Salt Lake Community College in Taylorsville, Utah, and Layton High School in Layton, Utah, is a 5-foot-5 outfielder. She was SWAC All-Region and SWAC All-Tournament for the Bruins. At Layton, she was an All-State, All Region and All-Area selection.

Hawker, out of Bountiful High School in Bountiful, Utah, is a 5-foot-6 outfielder. She has earned All-State, All-Region, All-Area and Honors Society Honors. Hawker plays her club softball for Pegasus.

Lockhart, out of Riverton High School in Riverton, Utah, is a 5-foot-9, pitcher/infielder. She has earned All-State, All-Region and Academic All-Region honors. Lockhart players her club softball for Pegasus, helping the team to numerous state and regional tournament top finishes.

Pestka, out of Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian, Idaho, is 5-foot-6 outfielder. She is a three-time All-Conference selection, and earned the U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete award as a junior. She plays her club softball for USA Explosion, which won the ASA State Championship during her freshman and sophomore years, and finishing third at ASA Nationals earlier this year.

Saltern, out of Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah, is a 5-foot-6 outfielder. She is a three-time team MVP/batting champion, and was All-Valley and All-Region as a sophomore and junior. Saltern plays her club softball for Pegasus.

Tricarico, out of Rolling Hills Prep in San Pedro, Calif., is a 5-foot-3 outfielder. She is a three-time First Team All-Coastal League player, as well as a three-time scholar-athlete. She broke her school's record by reaching base 15 consecutive times. Tricarico plays club softball for Cal Raiders 18 Gold.

Visser, out of Herriman High School in Herriman, Utah, is a 5-foot-5 catcher. She was First Team All-State and helped her team to the Utah 5-A State Championship game as a junior. Visser plays her club softball for Pegasus.

White, out of Lehi High School in Lehi, Utah, is a 5-foot-4 infielder/utility player, and will join her sister, Carley, who is a junior on this year's team. White was named as Utah's 5-A Most Valuable Player by the Salt Lake Tribune in 2015 after helping lead the Pioneers to back-to-back state championships. White plays her club softball for Pegasus.
