Weber State takes down Westminster 79-46

OGDEN – Weber State had three players in double figures as they took down in-state rival Westminster 79-46 Tuesday night at the Dee Events Center.
“It was good to get a game in after the holiday break,” head coach Bethann Ord said. “Everyone got to play and it was a great experience for everybody. I was really proud of the way they shared the basketball. I think our defense was good and we did a great job using this game to get ready for conference play.”
In the first quarter Weber State jumped to an early 6-0 lead. With three minutes left in the first quarter Westminster went on a 7-1 run and brought the score within one. A steal and layup by Regina Okoye ended the quarter with a 13-10 score.
Weber State took off in the second quarter going on a 14-0 run. The Wildcats outscored the Griffins 24-7 in the second quarter ending the half with a 20 point lead with a 37-17 score.
The Wildcats increased their lead to 27 points late in the third quarter but the Griffins sunk three free-throws to end the quarter with a 54-30 score. The fourth quarter Weber State never backed down and finished the game with a 79-46 win over the Griffins.
Weber State was led by Okoye who had 19 points. Kailie Quinn added 12 points for the Wildcats and Deeshyra Thomas had 11. Brittney Dunbar led the team with four assists. Jocelyn Adams was Weber State's top rebounder on the night pulling down nine but Quinn was not far behind with six. Thomas had the game high of four steals.
Weber State is now 8-3 on the season. Up next the Wildcats are starting Big Sky Conference play with three road games starting Jan. 2 at Idaho State. WSU is currently sitting at No. 1 in the Big Sky standings as we head into conference play. WSU's next home game will be Thursday, Jan. 14 for the annual Field Trip Day against Portland State.
