Weber State picks up 75-56 win over Southern Utah

OGDEN – Weber State women's basketball team defeated Southern Utah 75-56 for its fourth consecutive win over the Thunderbirds.
"We were trying to get a high tempo and that's where we were successful," said head coach Bethann Ord. "Tonight we had 30 points off the bench which was terrific. The girls just keep stepping it up and grinding it out."
Weber State started the game off on a 9-0 run and held Southern Utah scoreless for the first five minutes. The Wildcats had a 14-9 lead going into the second quarter. Kailie Quinn made three three pointers in the first quarter all within two minutes of each other.
The Thunderbirds played catch up and brought the score to 20-19 in the first four minutes of the second quarter. The second quarter was close in scoring between the Wildcats and Thunderbirds 20-19 in favor for the Wildcats.
The score was 34-28 coming out of halftime. The Wildcats carried their momentum into the third quarter and had a 16 point lead at the end of the quarter.
Weber State finished the game out strong for a 75-56 final score.
The Wildcats were led by Deeshyra Thomas who had 18 points. Quinn finished the game off with 17 points and five made three pointers. Dionne Coe had a career high of 11 points and Yarden Danan scored in double figures for the third time this season with 10 points.
The Wildcats shot 52 percent from the field, 50 percent from the three and 66 percent from the free throw line. Weber State had 20 turnovers to Southern Utah's 16. The two teams were even in rebounding 32-32.
Weber State is now 17-7 overall on the season and 9-4 in Big Sky Conference play. Weber State will host Northern Arizona Saturday before embarking on the final road trip of the season to Montana and Montana State. The final regular season games of the year will be played at home against Idaho March 2 and Eastern Washington March 4.
