OGDEN – Weber State women's basketball made history by picking up its 23rd win, the most in school history by taking down USC Upstate Wednesday 79-53.

"The girls really bought into today's game plan," head coach Bethann Ord said. "It's about taking care of each other and that's what we did. We had an amazing crowd and the girls battled."

Weber State jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the first quarter but Upstate answered with a 15-6 run claiming a four point lead. At the end of the first quarter the Wildcats held the Spartans scoreless and had a 19-17 lead.

The Wildcats continued to charge in the second quarter and ended the half with a 7-0 run to take a 28-41 lead going into halftime.

The third started out rough for the Wildcats while they went on a three minute scoring drought and Upstate went on a 6-0 run. Weber State answered with back-to-back three pointers by Deeshyra Thomas and Emily Drake.

Late in the third quarter Kailie Quinn stepped up with back-to-back three pointers giving the Wildcats a 19 point lead. The Wildcats had a 63-43 lead going into the fourth and final quarter of play.

Weber State had at least a 17 point lead for all of the fourth quarter and finished the game on a 7-0 run while Upstate went 2-8 on a three minute scoring drought.

Thomas led the Wildcats with 20 points, her seventh time scoring 20 or more points in a game. Brittney Dunbar and Drake each had 17 points. Drake had shot 5-6 from the beyond the arc while Dunbar added seven assists and three steals.

Quinn had her first double-double of the season with 12 points with four made three pointers and a career high of 10 rebounds.

The Wildcats shot 53 percent from the field going 30-56. The Wildcats also had 11 made buckets from beyond the arc for 47 percent and they shot 53 percent from the free throw line. The Spartans shot 33 percent from the field, 14 percent from the three and 78 percent from the free throw line.

Upstate's Brittany Starling had 15 points and 14 rebounds which was her 21st double-double on the year. Kirsten Dickerson and the Spartans game high of 21 points.

Weber State had 14 turnovers to Upstate's 19. The Spartans outrebounded the Wildcats 37-34.

The Wildcats now have a 23-11 record which is the winningest season in school history. Weber State will travel to Lafayette, LA. to take on the Ragin Cajun on Saturday, March 24 at 3 p.m.
