WSU falls 88-79 to undefeated Northern Colorado

OGDEN – Led by Emily Drake's career-high performance and first double double of the year with 27 points and 10 rebounds, the Wildcats took on the No. 1 team in the Big Sky Conference, Northern Colorado, and fell 88-79.

Northern Colorado got the jump on the Wildcats in the first quarter with Savannah Scott scoring 11 points in the first three minutes. A three by Yarden Danan and another by  Drake helped the Wildcats close the score gap but WSU still trailed 26-16 at the end of the quarter.

Northern Colorado maintained their lead going into half time with a 49-34 score.

The Wildcats came up with a strong fourth quarter going on a 9-0 run late in the game. The final 4:30 seconds of the game Northern Colorado didn't make a single field goal.

Drake came out of half time with guns blazing dropping 24 points in the second half and 16 points in the fourth quarter alone.

Despite the Wildcats strong efforts in the second half Northern Colorado maintained their lead to finish with an 88-79 win over WSU.

Weber State was led by Drake's career high performance of 27 points. Drake also had the game high of 10 rebounds for her first double double of the year. She also added the game high of four steals.

Danan added 18 points with five made buckets from beyond the arc. Zharia Hale also scored in double figures with 11 points. Hale also had the game high of five assists.

The Wildcats shot 43.1 percent from the field, 48.1 from the three and 76 percent from the free throw line. WSU pulled down 29 total rebounds, 17 assists and 13 steals with 16 turnovers.

Northern Colorado shot 61.1 percent from the field, 47 percent from the three, and 86.7 percent from the free throw line. The Bears had 33 boards, 25 assists, 11 steals with 18 turnovers.

Weber State is now 8-10 overall on the season and drop to 2-5 in Big Sky Conference play. WSU will next hit the road to take on the Bengals of Idaho State Jan. 27 at 2:00 p.m.
