OGDEN - Get ready to party like it's 1919! In 1919, the school then-known as Weber Normal College played its first season of football. 100 years later, Weber State will celebrate the 100th anniversary at the Sept. 28 home game against nationally-ranked Northern Iowa.Â
It will be a Purple Out where all Wildcat fans are encouraged to wear purple. The Wildcat football team will be debuting their new all purple jerseys, including the purple helmet with the "Go W" throwback logo.Â
All former Wildcat football players and coaches are invited to attend the game and will be recognized throughout the game. Former players can request up to 5 tickets for the game. To request tickets, former players can email wsuwildcatclub@gmail.com. Ticket requests need to be completed by Sept. 26 at 5 p.m.Â
In addition, 3,000 purple 100th Anniversary t-shirts will be given away to fans, courtesy of America First Credit Union.Â
Over the last 100 years, thousands of players have played football for the Wildcats. Weber State became a junior college in 1933, then became a four-year school in 1962. In 1963, the Wildcats became a charter member of the Big Sky Conference, joining Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, and Montana State as football-playing schools.
The Wildcats have captured six Big Sky Conference titles, including winning back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018. Weber State has had 38 players drafted in the NFL Draft and 62 players have earned All-America honors. Many coaches have come through Weber State before going on to careers in the NFL. Wildcat quarterback Jamie Martin won the Walter Payton Award in 1991 as the nation's top player and WSU running back Josh Davis won the Jerry Rice Award as the National Freshman of the Year in 2018.
The Wildcats host Northern Iowa on at 6 p.m. on Sept. 28 at Stewart Stadium.Â
