Shaheed scored a 44-yard touchdown for the New Orleans Saints in his first NFL game.
It was quite a memorable weekend for former Weber State football star Rashid Shaheed.Â
Â
On Saturday, Shaheed was activated from the practice squad to the active roster of the New Orleans Saints.Â
Â
On Sunday, he scored a touchdown in his first NFL game.Â
Â
Early in the second quarter of Sunday's game in New Orleans against the Cincinnati Bengals, Shaheed took a handoff from Andy Dalton and ran 44-yards to the end zone for the touchdown that gave the Saints a 14-7lead.Â
Â
It was his first time touching the ball in his first NFL game.Â
Â
He also had one kickoff return for 20 yards and one punt return for six yards in Sunday's game.Â
Â
Shaheed was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Saints in April.Â
Â
He finished his standout career at Weber State in 2021. The San Diego native ended his career as the FCS all-time leader in kickoff return touchdowns with seven. He was a four-time All-American with the Wildcats, the only player in WSU history to earn four All-America honors. He also earned All-Big Sky first-team honors three times.Â
Â
Shaheed is WSU's career leader in kickoff return average at 29.1 yards per return and he had four returns of 100 yards. He played in 53 career games at Weber State and finished his career with 5,478 all-purpose yards, the third-most in school history. He also ranks seventh in career receiving yards with 2,164 yards and 18 touchdowns and is 10th in career receptions with 146.Â
