Wildcats Look Strong at Home this Weekend

The Weber State track and field team was at home this weekend for their Indoor Invitational. The team had several athletes competing and saw strong performances from several.

Field events started the weekend on Friday night with Caleb Whitney earning a PR height of 15-11.00 to share first place in the Pole Vault. Caleb's mark moves him to number eight on the WSU all-time list. Reece Gardner finished sixth in the event with a PR height of 14-11.00, and Rodee Brow finished eighth with a height of 14-05.25.

Johnie Talamantes finished first in the long jump with a big jump of 22-06.50.

Wildcat throwers performed well at home with Jake Weathers taking top spot in the weight throw with a new PR of 53-01.00. Cody Canard finished third in the event with a PR throw of 49-11.75, and Ryan Johnson finished fifth throwing 46-02.00 for a new PR.

In the shot put Gaige Veilhauer led the wildcats with a third place finishing throw of 49-09.25.

Events on the track began with the 55-meter dash where Abraham Williams built off his performance at BYU last week with a second-place finish in the event with a time of 6.35 to put him at #6 on the WSU all-time list.

In the 55-meter hurdles Caleb Whitney finished first with a time of 7.64. He was followed by G Kire Goulding in third at 7.75.

Rodee Brow and Goulding finished second, and third overall in the 400-meter dash and first and second among attached athletes. Rodee came across at a PR of 50.62 to edge out Goulding at 50.68. Alex Wheeler followed them in fifth place with a time of 51.63.

As solo representation in the 800-meters, Bryce Anderson finished second for Weber State with a time of 1:56.03.

Kelton Gagnon, a true freshman ran unattached as Coach Talley was considering possibly redshirting him due to a string of illnesses in December. Kelton finished first in the mile at 4:18.24 and Coach Talley said he will likely compete in-uniform moving forward this season.

Other top-finishing mile runners for the Wildcats were Nathaniel Garner in third at 4:29.20, Jamison Wilkes at 4:30.50 in fifth, and Ben Ricks finishing ninth at 4:32.79.
