Jaylen Johnson named Weber State football assistant coach

Johnson will coach the Wildcat defensive tackles. He's a former player and graduate assistant coach at the University of Washington.
Weber State football head coach Mickey Mental has named Jaylen Johnson a new assistant coach with the Wildcats. Johnson will coach the defensive tackles.Â
Johnson comes to Weber State after spending the last two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Washington, where assisted the coaches on the defensive line. Â
Johnson played football at Washington from 2014-18 and earned All-Pac-12 honors as a senior. He played in 50 career games with the Huskies and was a part of two Pac-12 Championship teams. He recorded 73 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks in his career. As a senior in 2018, he started 12 games and helped lead Washington to a Rose Bowl appearance.Â
He graduated from Washington in 2018 with a degree in Political Science. Following his career, he attended a mini-camp with the Denver Broncos.Â
He began his coaching career at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, Washington in 2019, prior to joining the staff at Washington. Â
Johnson is a native of Corona, California, and attended Centennial High school. He was named the CIF Southern Section Inland Defensive Player of the Year and the Defensive MVP of the Big VIII League as a senior in 2013. He earned first-team all-state honors and was one of the top recruits in the state.Â
