Weber State completes 2023 football schedule

Wildcats will open the 2023 season at home against Central Washington on August 31.
OGDEN - Weber State football has completed its schedule for the 2023 season with the addition of the season opener against Central Washington.Â
The Weber State Wildcats will host the Central Washington Wildcats in the 2023 season opener on Thursday, August 31 at 6 p.m. at Stewart Stadium.Â
Central Washington is a Division II school located in Ellensburg, Washington, and the Wildcats are members of the Lone Star Conference. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.Â
This will mark the second-straight year the Wildcats will open a season at home.Â
The 2023 season will be the first year under new Wildcat head coach Mickey Mental, who was named the 12th head coach in Weber State history in December. Mental was the offensive coordinator for the Wildcats last season and takes over as head coach after nine seasons under Jay Hill.Â
Following the home opener, the Wildcats will face two non-conference road games at Northern Iowa on September 9 and at Utah on September 16.Â
Weber State will open Big Sky play on September 23 at home against Montana State. The 'Cats then hit the road at Northern Colorado on September 30, the first visit to Greeley since 2015.Â
The Red Rock Rivalry game with Northern Arizona will be on October 7 at Stewart Stadium. The following week the Wildcats will host UC Davis on October 14 as part of the annual Homecoming Game at Weber State.Â
WSU will close the season with three of four games on the road. The 'Cats will play at Eastern Washington on October 21 and Idaho State on November 4. The final home game will be on November 11 against Idaho, the first visit by the Vandals to Ogden since 1995. The regular season will conclude on November 18 at Cal Poly.Â
The Wildcats are holding spring camp with the annual Spring Game scheduled for Saturday, April 15.Â
Season tickets for the 2023 Wildcat football season also go on sale on April 15.
Construction is also underway for upgrades to Stewart Stadium. The east stands will be completely upgraded and renovated. A new updated field and track will also be in place for the 2023 season.Â
