Wildcats Close Day One of Big Sky Championships in Fourth Place

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Weber State shot an opening round 10-over par 283 on Monday and is in fourth place at the Big Sky Conference Men's Golf Championships following the first day of play at Talking Stick Golf Club.

Brendan Thomas and Hayden Banz led the way for Weber State and are each in the top-10 after the opening 18 holes. Thomas had a steady round, with one birdie against two bogeys for an opening 1-over par 71 and is tied for 6th place. Banz shot 2-over par 72 on the day, with two birdies on the day.

Cameron Gray carded a pair of birdies on the day and is tied for 11th place at 3-over par 73. Isaac Buerger and Gunnar Knutson each posted a team-high three birdies in the round. Buerger is tied for 15th place at 4-over 74, while Knutson is tied for 17th at 5-over 75.

Sacramento State grabbed the early lead with a 3-over par 283, and leads second place Northern Colorado (284) by a single shot. Idaho is third at 288, two shots ahead of the Wildcats. Binghamton is in fifth place at 296, and Hartford is sixth at 307.

The Hornets were led by Casey Leebrick, who shot a 6-under par 64 to grab the individual medalist lead. Casey Shehee of Northern Colorado, while UNC's Jack Castiglia, the Big Sky Player of the Year, is in a three-way tie for third at even-par 70.

The tournament will continue with the second round on Tuesday, and will conclude on Wednesday with the final 18 holes.
