Weber State football nationally ranked to start the season

Once again, Weber State is nationally ranked to start the season. The Wildcats are ranked 22nd in the nation in the Stats Perform FCS Preseason Top 25 poll, released Monday before the 2024 season.

It's the eighth straight season that Weber State has been nationally ranked in a preseason poll.

Weber State is one of six schools from the Big Sky Conference in the top 25 with four schools ranked in the top eight. Montana is ranked third, Montana State fourth, Idaho seventh, Sacramento State eighth, and UC Davis is 18th.

Defending national champion South Dakota State is ranked first with North Dakota State ranked second.

Weber State is coming off its ninth straight winning season last year and won the final three games of the season, including a win over fourth-ranked Idaho.

Head coach Mickey Mental returns for his second season as head coach of the Wildcats. WSU opens the 2024 season on August 31 at Washington. WSU will also play non-conference games at Lamar and Northwestern State, and a home game against McNeese.

The Big Sky season includes home games against Portland State, Northern Colorado, Idaho State, and Cal Poly, and road games at Montana, Sacramento State, Northern Arizona, and Idaho.
