Wildcats In Second After Day One of Kelsey Chugg Invitational

EDEN, Utah – The Weber State Women's Golf team opened up the 2024 fall season on Monday with the first two rounds of the Kelsey Chugg Invitational and the team is in second place with one round remaining.
WSU opened the day with a 20-over par 308 and were in third place through 18 holes behind Cal Baptist and Utah Tech. The Wildcats led the field in the afternoon round, however, shooting a 2-over par 290 to move past Utah Tech into second and cut the Lancers lead to three strokes.
Cala Korman led the Wildcats on the day, opening with a 75 before a 2-under par 70 in the afternoon to post 1-over par 145 through 36 holes. Korman heads into the final round in second place on the individual leaderboard, trailing Cal Baptist's Samantha Dizon (74-70) by one shot.
Utah Tech's Maria Purroy Galan and Cal Baptist's Pusanisa Ekkantrong are each tied with Korman in second at 1-over.
Weber State's Emily Song and Isabel Gutierrez each joins Korman in the top-10, with Song (76-74) tied for fifth at 6-over and Gutierrez (78-73) in ninth place at 7-over.
Sofia Fuenmayor (79-75) is in 17th place at 154, while Jade Gruher (83-73) is in 22nd place at 156.
Freshman Emma Lillywhite played as an individual for the Wildcats and shot a 2-over par 74 in the morning round, but faded a bit with an 82 in the afternoon to slip into the tie for 22nd in her collegiate debut.
Fellow freshman Braylyn Bayer also made her collegiate debut for Weber State and shot rounds of 80 and 77. She is tied for 29th place after the opening day.
Brynn Bischoff also competed for the first time for Weber State on Monday, shooting 84-81 as an individual and is tied for 54th place.
Utah Tech remained in the top-three after day one at 29-over par, seven shots behind the Wildcats, while Montana and Idaho are each tied for fourth at 43-over in the 11-team field.
The final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m., but forecasted rain showers could threaten the tournament's final 18 holes.
