Wildcats fall to Utes

SALT LAKE CITY - Weber State women's basketball fell 65-52 to in-state rivals Utah.Â
The game started as a tight contest, with the Wildcats and the Utes trading baskets. Weber State managed to pull ahead by one with six consecutive points, using two layups from Fui Niumeitolu and a jumper from Hannah Robbins. However, Utah responded just before the end of the quarter, with back-to-back 3-pointers to take a 17-10 lead.Â
In the second quarter, Lanae Billy was the lone Wildcat scorer in the first five minutes, sinking three 3-pointers. Overall, the Wildcats scored 14 points, off four 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Utah maintained a strong offensive performance, totaling 20 points and keeping the lead heading into the half at 37-24.Â
After 20 minutes of gameplay, the Wildcats were shooting 32.3 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from behind the arc.Â
In the second half, Utah's defense limited Weber State to only nine points in the quarter, extending the Utes lead to 46-33.Â
The final ten minutes saw more action from the Wildcats, as the squad launched a 14-point run by four good three-pointers. This surge helped Weber State narrow the gap to a six-point deficit. However, the Utes responded with five crucial free throws, ultimately securing the 65-52 victory and preventing the Wildcats comeback.
