Weber State football adds former Wildcat Keilan Benjamin as assistant coach

Benjamin will coach the Wildcat cornerbacks. He played at WSU from 2017-18.

Another former Wildcat is coming home. 

Weber State football head coach Mickey Mental has announced another coaching hire, adding former WSU standout player Keilan Benjamin to join the WSU staff. Benjamin will coach the Wildcat cornerbacks. 

"I'm thrilled to be coming back to coach at Weber State," Benjamin said. "From the fans to the administration I want everyone to know how much I'm genuinely excited to be back and how much I love Weber State and the supporters. This place is special to me and has become my home and coaching here at Weber State is a dream come true."

Benjamin played two seasons at Weber State (2017-18) and was a part of two Big Sky Championship teams and two trips to the FCS Playoffs. The Wildcats posted a record of 21-7 in those two seasons, including a 14-2 Big Sky record, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs in 2017. 

He earned first-team All-Big Sky honors as a senior in 2018. He played in 25 games in his two seasons with the Wildcats and recorded 13 pass breakups and seven interceptions. He also had 110 tackles with 12.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He had five interceptions as a senior in 2018 to earn All-Big Sky first-team honors. 

Since leaving Weber State, Benjamin spent two seasons as a quality control coach for Weber State from 2022-23. He also spent the 2024 with the Ogden Jets coaching the cornerbacks and helping as defensive coordinator. 

The Richmond, California native graduated from Weber State in 2023 with a degree in Professional Sales.
