OGDEN - Despite a late 9-0 run in the final three minutes, Weber State women's basketball ultimately fell to the Northern Colorado Bears this Saturday afternoon, losing by a score of 69-66.
The game started with the Bears jumping out to a 10-0 run, giving them a five-point lead over the Wildcats. However, back-to-back 3-pointers from Hannah Robbins and Paris Lauro quickly brought the 'Cats even at 13-13. Weber State then took the lead on a Fui Niumeitolu layup, making the score 17-13. The Bears fought back and ended the quarter up by one point, sinking a late 3-pointer for a 19-18 lead.
The second quarter was tightly contested as neither team was able to pull within a few points of the other. Exchanging the lead between both teams, Northern Colorado was ultimately able to hold onto it to end the half 37-35.
The half ended with Weber State shooting 38.2 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the arc. Robbins led the squad with eight points.Â
Northern Colorado maintained their lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 20-12 to take a 57-47 advantage into the final ten minutes.Â
The fourth quarter remained scoreless until the Bears hit a basket at the 6:23 mark. However, a dominant Wildcat squad surged back with a nine-point run, scoring within the final four minutes of the game. This included back-to-back 3-pointers by Antoniette Emma-Nnopu and Robbins. In the final moments, it became a tense free-throw battle. Emma-Nnopu's missed free throw meant the Bears held a one-point advantage as the Wildcats were unable to tie the score. Two crucial late free throws then extended the Bears lead to 69-66 and ultimately sealed the win as the 'Cats final 3-point attempt fell short.Â
During halftime today, Weber State celebrated Wildcat legend "CT" Carla Taylor, who was inducted into the 2025 Weber State Athletics Hall of Fame.
