POCATELLO, Idaho - Weber State women's basketball's second-quarter comeback was not enough as the Wildcats dropped a 65-54 contest this Saturday afternoon against the Idaho State Bengals.
Â
The Bengals established an early lead with a 12-0 run in the first quarter against the Wildcats, finishing the quarter 20-8, a deficit the Wildcats were unable to overcome.Â
Weber State mounted a second-quarter comeback, reducing the deficit to five points within the first two minutes. Although Idaho State responded with a 4-0 run to extend their lead, the Wildcats quickly used an 8-0 run, highlighted by two 3-pointers from Paris Lauro, to pull within one point at 24-23. Sydney White then gave Weber State the lead with a layup. Despite the Wildcats efforts, Idaho State managed to reclaim the lead, heading into halftime up 34-27.
Weber State was led by Lauro with 10 points at the half. The Wildcats were shooting 39.9 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from behind the arc compared to the Bengals 35.3 percent and 45.5 percent.Â
Looking to recover from the deficit, the Wildcats rallied but could only put up a few isolated points and failed to string together a run. This left Idaho State with a solid lead, 51-37, heading into the final frame.
Weber State had a burst of offense in the fourth quarter, scoring five straight points to cut the deficit to 10. However, Idaho State maintained its strong performance, ultimately securing a 65-54 victory.
