Wildcats had 307 rushing yards, and Trevian Tribble had two interceptions.
Even with a second lightning delay, the Wildcats kept running as Weber State rushed for 307 yards and scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to defeat Idaho 38-27 Saturday afternoon in the Wildcats' Homecoming game at Stewart Stadium.
The Wildcats improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in Big Sky Conference play with their second straight win.
Ferguson rushed for a career-high 153 yards and two touchdowns, while Seth Rigtrup added 129 yards and two touchdowns. The two combined for 282 rushing yards and four scores as Weber State averaged 8.5 yards per rushing attempt.
It's the first time Weber State has had two players run for at least 100 yards in the same game in four years.Â
On the first play, Ferguson broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run just 11 seconds into the contest. It was the Wildcats' longest rushing play of the season.
The Wildcats extended the lead to 14-0 with 3:39 left in the first quarter on a 6-yard touchdown run by Rigtrup. The score capped a 13-play, 78-yard drive that took 6:31 off the clock.
After that came another lightning delay that lasted just over one hour.Â
When the action resumed, Idaho got on the board with a 19-yard touchdown pass with 12:36 remaining in the second quarter. Neither team scored again in the half, and Weber State took a 14-7 lead into the break.
The Wildcats extended their lead to 17-7 on a 25-yard field goal by David Dellenbach with 8:18 left in the third quarter.
Idaho answered with a 39-yard touchdown pass with two minutes remaining in the quarter to cut the Weber State lead to 17-14.
Weber State responded early in the fourth quarter. Trevian Tribble intercepted a pass on the first play of the fourth quarter and returned it 19 yards to the Idaho 14-yard line. Just two players later, Nate Dahle connected with Noah Kjar on a 14-yard touchdown pass to give the Wildcats a 24-14 lead with 14:41 remaining.
The Vandals put together a 12-play, 65-yard drive and scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass with 8:15 left to again cut the lead to three points at 24-21.
The Wildcats answered quickly. Rigtrup broke free for a 58-yard run, and two plays later scored on a 16-yard touchdown run to push the lead to 31-21 with 7:12 remaining. The three-play, 75-yard drive took just 1:03.
Tribble came up with another interception with 5:39 to play and returned this one 31 yards to the Idaho 42-yard line.Â
WSU responded with a seven-play, 42-yard scoring drive. Ferguson scored his second touchdown of the game on a 2-yard run with 2:46 remaining to give the Wildcats a 38-21 advantage.
Idaho scored on a 14-yard touchdown pass with 15 seconds left, but the two-point conversion failed to make the final score 38-27.
Dahle finished 10 of 19 passing for 99 yards and a touchdown. Noah Kjar led the Wildcats with five receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown, while Robert Young added three catches for 37 yards.
Tribble had two interceptions with 50 return yards. It was his first interceptions of his 41-game career at Weber State. Both picks led to WSU touchdowns as the two takeaways helped Weber State finish with a 14-0 advantage in points off turnovers. The Wildcats also stopped Idaho on downs twice and held the Vandals to 113 rushing yards.
Weber State finished with 406 yards of total offense, compared to 496 for Idaho. The Wildcats scored on all five of their trips into the red zone and finished 6 of 11 on third-down conversions.
Dellenbach was 5 for 5 on extra points and made his only field goal attempt.
It's another home game for the Wildcats this Saturday as WSU hosts longtime rival Idaho State at 1 p.m. for the annual Homecoming game at Weber State.Â
