Weber State University Athletics
CHAMPS/Life Skills
(CHallenging Athletes Minds for Personal Success)
The mission of the CHAMPS / Life Skills program is to provide a systematic personal development program designed to reach each student-athlete based on his or her individual needs. The focus of the program is on the individual as a whole person -- academically, athletically and emotionally.
The program provides a well-rounded curriculum of topics structured into five components that address critical areas of personal development.
-
Commitment to athletic excellence
-
Commitment to academic excellence
-
Commitment to personal development
-
Commitment to career development
-
Commitment to community service
In cooperation with the NCAA, Weber State University is confident that proper attention to these areas of development can help promote healthy, positive lifestyles among student-athletes. By being proactive rather than reactive in personal development, and by practicing prevention rather than crisis intervention, students can successfully apply this learning to real-life planning.
The university's First Year Experience Program (FYE) is a valuable component of the CHAMPS / Life Skills program.
