Accuplacer Testing

Accuplacer Testing/Study Guides/Distance Proctor Request Information

Accuplacer is an Assessment Exam for Math and/or English. The requirement to test is based on ACT/SAT test scores. Students testing below 17/440 in English and/or Reading, and/or 23/540 in Math will be required to take the placement exam(s) prior to being able to register. A hold will be placed on a student's record after admission, and will not be removed until the exam(s) have been completed.

Students who have AP (link to Posting AP later in this document) (score of 3 or above) or Concurrent Enrollment (link to Posting Concurrent Enrollment later in this document) courses in English Composition and/or Math, who get these posted to their WSU transcript, may not need to take the placement exam(s).

Here are links to WSU Accuplacer Information, General Accuplacer Information and Sample Questions, and a study guide. It is good to brush up prior to taking the exam(s), and to give oneself enough time in testing to do well. A rushed job may get the hold off, but may place students in courses below their actual level of ability. It is suggested that students requiring both math and English take them on different days, where possible, so they can do their best work and not get burned out in the testing process.

The Accuplacer Exams can be taken as many times as a student chooses. The cost is $10 for Math, and $5 for English Sentence Skills, and $5 for Reading Comprehension. Test scores will determine which of these a student needs. For clarification of testing needed check with Athletic Academic Advisors, not coaches. Student's will need to bring a Picture ID, their W# (weber identification number given upon admittance), and the cost of test(s) being taken. Please print a copy of your results after testing. Notify your Athletic Academic Advisor when testing is completed. Holds will be removed within one business day after testing.

Students near Weber State may wish to come in person to take the test. Testing is offered in the Union Building Testing Center located in the Union Building, Rm 324. Click here for Union Testing center location and hours of operation

Students who live more than 50 miles from Weber State can set up a Proctor Exam. The cost is the same. Students must locate a College or University near them and set up someone to administer the exam, then fill out the Distance Accuplacer Proctor Request Form to order the exam. It will take about one week after testing for holds to be removed. Please read directions carefully when scheduling your exam. Plan ahead!

Continuing student-athletes who have not progressed in math, or who have not taken math each semester until they complete their General Education math will receive a hold on their account requiring that they do the following:
1. Have a current test score (have taken accuplacer within the past year). If the score is current skip to #2.
2. Complete the Assessment & Placement Policy Online Student Information Session so the hold can be expired, and registration can take place.
WSU does NOT accept tests from other sources due to variables in testing. Please take the WSU Accuplacer test in person or by setting up a Proctor Exam. If there are questions regarding this process contact Terry Wright/WSU Testing Center at 801-626-6645.
