Chick's Last Race

Chick's Last Race
Weber State mourns the passing of legendary Hall of Fame track and field coach Charles "Chick" Hislop who passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at the age of 86. Hislop served as the head coach at Weber State from 1969-2006. Shortly before his passing, Coach Hislop penned the following letter:

Dear Wildcats,

I would like to thank you for the outpouring of love and support to my family and me. I have a few final requests that I would like to see from all of you who truly “bleed purple."  I guess we can call this "Chick's Last Race."

While in my final lap, I am enjoying the memories and relationships that have grown throughout my life. Even more than the championships and NCAA qualifying teams, I feel gratitude for the many wonderful people who have been part of my journey. I hope that I have impacted your life in a positive way—I know that you have impacted mine. I hope that I have helped develop character, grit, and passion for life. I hope that my influence motivated you to be better parents, spouses, and people.

One of my final wishes is that after I am gone, your love and support for Weber State Track & Field will continue. I would love to see a yearly commitment from each of you that will enhance the opportunities of young student-athletes at Weber State. By helping, you can make a significant difference in the experience of the young athletes and the future success of the track & field and cross country programs at Weber State.

One of the things that makes ‘Lil Ol’ Weber State special is our loyalty to one another. We may be the underdogs, but that makes us more unified—it makes us a family. It takes contributions from Wildcats of the past to keep the program thriving. My final request to you is to make a donation to the Weber State Track & Field program and if you are in a position to do so, please set up a recurring donation.

Thank you for the impact you have had on my life. Thank you for your contributions that have made Weber State great.

Sincerely,
Coach Chick Hislop
