Preston finished his career at Weber State in 2021. He was an All-American and earned All-Big Sky honors three times. 

He played in 56 career games and missed just two in his career. Recorded 229 total tackles with 143 solo tackles, which ranks as the seventh-most in WSU history. Had seven career interceptions and 16 pass breakups, which is also seventh-most in school history. 

2021 (Senior)
Earned second-team All-Big Sky honors during the season…Started in all 11 games for the Wildcats…Led the Wildcat team in tackles with 61 for an average of 5.5 per game…Had a season-high 11 tackles in WSU’s win at No. 2 Eastern Washington and had 10 tackles against Portland State…Had an interception in WSU’s win at Southern Utah and had three tackles for loss.

Spring 2021
Played in five games during the spring season, helping Weber State to a fourth straight Big Sky Championship…Earned second-team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association and was named to the All-Big Sky first team...Led the Big Sky with three interceptions in five games during the season...Had two interceptions in WSU’s epic win over Northern Arizona and had one in the win over UC Davis...Also had two pass breakups on the year and recorded 21 total tackles with 16 solo tackles...Had three tackles for loss and one sack, as well as one forced fumble. 
 
2019 (Junior)
Started all 15 games during Weber State’s historic season, helping WSU win a third-straight Big Sky title and advance to the FCS Semifinals…Earned third-team All-Big Sky Conference honors at safety...Finished third on the team in tackles with 91 for an average of 6.1 per game...Had a season-high 10 tackles in a win over Northern Iowa and had nine tackles against Southern Utah and James Madison...Had at least three tackles in every game this season...Had 58 solo tackles and 33 assisted tackles...Also had 7.5 tackles for loss for a loss of 21 yards...Had three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery...Also had one interception and had five pass breakups.

2018 (Sophomore)
Saw action in all 13 games for the Wildcats, helping Weber State to a second-straight Big Sky title and a trip to the FCS Quarterfinals...Totaled 28 tackles on the year with 17 solo and 11 assisted tackles...Had a season-high six tackles in a win over Northern Colorado...Recovered a fumble against Northern Arizona and returned it 86 yards for a touchdown...Also had an interception against NAU which he returned for 27 yards.

2017 (Freshman)
Played in 13 games as a true freshman as part of Weber State’s historic season that included a school-record 11 wins, a Big Sky title, two wins in the FCS Playoffs and a fifth-place national ranking...Totaled 28 tackles on the season with 18 solo tackles and 10 assisted tackles...Had five tackles each in wins at Eastern Washington and Portland State...Had an interception in the fourth quarter at No. 12 Eastern Washington to help seal the win...Also had four pass breakups on the season...Earned Big Sky Academic All-Conference honors in Accounting.  

Mesquite High School
Played for coach Chad Degrainer at Mesquite High School and helped lead his team to the state quarterfinals...Earned All-State honors and was a two-time All-Section player...Set a Mesquite school record with 46 pass breakups...Had 207 career tackles with nine interceptions and three forced fumbles...Also had two defensive touchdowns and one kickoff returned for a touchdown...Also played baseball in high school.

Was born March 18, 1999, in Columbia, Missouri...Parents are Jamie Jones and Corbin Smith and has three younger siblings...Is majoring in Accounting at Weber State.
