Rich Friend assumed the role of head women's golf coach in the summer of 2025 after serving as the Director of Player Development for the Weber State men's and women's golf programs for the previous nine seasons.

During his tenure with the Weber State golf programs, the two teams have combined for six top-three finishes at the Big Sky Conference Championships, including a win by the WSU men's team in 2022.  Rich has helped lead the Wildcat women's team to four-straight top-three finishes in the Big Sky Conference with third places from 2022 to 2024 and a second place finish in 2025. The Wildcats' third place finish in 2022 was their best placement since a third place back in 2009.

In addition to the men's conference title in '22, the Wildcats finished third in 2017 and runner-ups in 2019 and 2024.

Friend, who played with the Wildcats under former head coach Mac Madsen, came back to Weber State after having spent the previous 30 years as a golf professional at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash. He was the head professional at Tacoma Country and Golf Club from 1989 to 2016.

As a Wildcat, he was a tournament individual medalist twice and recorded six top-10 finishes. He led Weber State to consecutive Big Sky Conference team titles in 1979 and 1980, and he was the conference tournament individual medalist in 1980. He helped the Wildcats to a 13th place finish in the NCAA tournament in 1979 and a 23rd place finish in 1980.
