Football - 2007-10
From Hawaii to the Hall of Fame. Cameron Higgins came from Honolulu to Ogden to play quarterback at Weber State under legendary Hall of Fame coach Ron McBride. Over the next four years, he would rewrite the Wildcat record book and help lead Weber State to new heights.Â
During his legendary career, Higgins played in 48 games for the Wildcats from 2007-10. He still holds Weber State school records with 12,274 passing yards, also the third most in Big Sky history. He set a school record with 98 passing touchdowns, and still ranks second in WSU history in total offense yards at 12,261.Â
Higgins played all 11 games as a red shirt freshman with the Wildcats in 2007. He took over as the starting quarterback for the last few games and finished the year with nearly 2,000 yards passing and 17 touchdowns.Â
History was made during his sophomore season of 2008. He earned All-America honors and was named the Big Sky Offensive MVP, leading the Wildcats to their first Big Sky title in 21 years. He became just the second player in Weber State history to earn Offensive MVP honors and also earned All-America honors.Â
During that season, Higgins set single-season school records for passing yards and total offense. He threw for 4,477 yards and 36 touchdowns as Weber State posted a 10-4 record and advanced to the second round of the FCS Playoffs. His 4,000 yards of total offense was at the time a Big Sky single-season record, and the 36 touchdowns is still a Wildcat single-season record. The Wildcats posted a 7-1 Big Sky record and defeated Cal Poly in the first round of the playoffs.Â
He followed up in 2009 with 3,326 passing yards, still the fourth most in a season in school history, and also threw for 30 touchdowns. He led the Wildcats to another seven-win season and a second straight trip to the FCS Playoffs.Â
During his senior season in 2010, he threw for 2,512 yards and 15 touchdowns.Â
