Weber State volleyball battled Montana State through five sets Thursday night at Swenson Gym, but the Wildcats came up short in a 3-2 loss to the Bobcats. Weber State won the opening set and fought back to take the third, but Montana State closed out the match in five, winning 23-25, 25-23, 24-26. 25-20, 15-9.

The Wildcats came out strong in the first set, building an early lead and putting pressure on Montana State. The Bobcats worked their way back into the set, but Weber State held on down the stretch to take a 25-23 win and grab the early advantage.

Montana State responded in the second set, using a late push to even the match at one set apiece with a 25-23 win. Weber State kept the match close throughout, but the Bobcats found enough separation to force a third set.

The third set brought another tight battle between the two teams. Weber State stayed within striking distance and made its move late, taking advantage of Montana State's errors to pull ahead. The Wildcats finished the set with back-to-back points to earn a 26-24 win and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Montana State answered in the fourth set, building momentum and pulling away to win 25-20. The Bobcats carried that momentum into the deciding fifth set, where they took control early and held off Weber State to secure the 15-9 win.

Rose Moore led the Wildcats offensively with 20 kills, hitting .390 for the match. Lexie Carlson added 17 kills, while Sophia Sparrow contributed nine kills and led Weber State with eight total blocks. Ziya Munyer and Maggie Larsen each finished with four block assists.

Marly Pratt paced the Wildcats defensively with 20 digs, while Addison Eastwood recorded 41 assists and 13 digs. As a team, Weber State finished with 58 kills and 13 total blocks.

The loss moves Weber State to 12-7 overall and 5-4 in Big Sky Conference play.

The Wildcats will look to bounce back as they continue conference play on the road against Montana on Saturday.
