OGDEN, Utah (AP) -Tim Toone caught six passes, four of them for touchdowns, for 128 yards as Weber State won its first game this season by beating Sacramento State 26-7 Saturday.
Freshman Cameron Higgins completed 13-of-20 passes for 245 yards in his second start for the Wildcats (1-4, 1-2 Big Sky Conference) while Trevyn Smith had 21 carries for 110 yards.
Sacramento State (1-4, 1-2) shuffled through three quarterbacks and third-string Tim Bessolo finally got the Hornets on the board in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard pass to Crosby Wehr. Bessolo finished the game 8-of-24 for 156 yards.
WSU didn't commit a turnover in the snowy conditions and won the turnover battle. Ty Sparrow intercepted Sacramento State starter Jason Smith on the Hornets' first possession while Kevin Linehan recovered a fumbled snap by Smith.
That was Smith's last play in the game and on the very next snap Higgins connected with Toone for a 50-yard touchdown. Toone bobbled the pass for a few yards before pulling it in as he crossed the goal line.
