SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The Weber State University football team suffered their second-straight blowout loss to start the 2007 season on Saturday as Cal Poly downed the 'Cats 47-19.

Wildcat miscues were a big part of the story as WSU turned the ball over four times. Also included in the story was a safety early in the game that gave the Mustangs an early 2-0 lead. As the Wildcats set up to punt, the snap went over the head of punter Mike Snoy and out of the end zone. The safety was reminiscent of the opening possession of the 2006 matchup of these two teams in Ogden, when the Wildcats fumbled on their own one-yard-line on the first play from scrimmage, essentially handing the Mustangs a touchdown as they went on to a 17-0 win.

The Wildcat defense was again very porous, allowing 503 yards of total offense. The offense was again inept for much of the game as well, totaling only 208 yards.

Trevyn Smith ended up with a solid night rushing, earning 82 yards on 20 carries. Jimmy Barnes, however completed only 13 of 38 passes for 197 yards.

Bryant Eteuati was again the star of the WSU attack, gaining 73 yards on six catches. His biggest contribution came on special teams as he returned five kicks for 177 yards, including an 83-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Eteuati also caught a pass from Barnes on the ensuing two-point conversion attempt as the Wildcats cut the Mustangs' lead to 40-11.

Cal Poly quarterback Jonathan Dally was very efficient, and explosive, completing 13 of 20 pass attempts for 328 yards and six touchdowns. James Noble led the ground attack for the Mustangs with 62 yards on 14 carries.

Scotty Goodloe and Derek Johnson were active on defense for the Wildcats, running up 11 and 10 tackles, respectively.

Weber State will look to get in the win column as they host Montana State for the 2007 home opener and Homecoming Game next week. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. MST.
