'Cats Down Pac-10 Washington in Home Opener

'Cats Drop In-State Battle with Cougars

PROVO, Utah -- Brigham Young University (6-2) out-scored the Weber State women's basketball team (3-5) by eight points in the second half to down the Wildcats 76-69 in an in-state battle at the Marriott Center.

The Wildcats jumped out early and held the lead for most of the first half. After BYU made a run to take the lead, WSU's Sarah Conner hit a three-pointer to give WSU a 31-28 lead and the 'Cats held on for a 33-32 lead at the break.

In the second half, BYU scored 14-straight to open the period, taking control of the contest. The Cougars placed four players in double figures for the game, led by Shawnee Slade's 16 and Coriann Wood's 15.  Cassie King added 12 points for BYU, while Mindy Nielson chipped in with 11. 

The Wildcats were led by Caitlin Anderson, who rebounded from a tough last week with a game-high 19 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the field. Anderson hit 3 of 4 shots from behind the arc and tied BYU's King and WSU teammate Joey O'Neill with a game-high seven rebounds.

Tonya Schnibbe pitched in with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Weber State, while Sarah Conner came off the bench to add 13 points on 4 of 8 shooting (3 of 6 from three-point range).

The Wildcats will have the remainder of the week off, and will return to action on Monday, Dec. 15 as they host UC Irvine at 7:00 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
