Southern Miss all-America candidate, Jeremy Wise (6-2, 165 Jr. Guard) scored 19 points, handed out six assists, and added three steals along with a blocked shot, leading the Golden Eagles to a 68-49 win over the Weber State Wildcats in the second game for both teams in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic in Gulfport, Mississippi. Wise scored 17 of his game high 19 points in the first half.

After two brief ties at 2-2, 4-4, and 6-6, the Golden Eagles took the lead for good on a jumper by Wise with 15:53 left in the first half, then slowly built up a 30-19 lead with 24 seconds left before WSU guard DAMIAN LILLARD (6-2, 180 Fr.) cut the half time to nine (30-21) on a jumper with seven seconds left.

LILLARD also made the first basket by either team to start the second half bringing the Wildcats to with seven at th 19:17 mark, but the Golden Eagles then spread their wings going on a 29-8 scoring run over the next ten minutes putting the game out of reach. Southern Miss hit 15-24 second half shots and out rebounded the ?Cats 14-8 in the half and 31-20 overall.

Southern Miss got 18 points from Courtne Beasley (6-3, 210 Sr. Guard) and 13 points from Craig Craft (6-3, 190 Sr. Guard). Beasley led the Golden Eagles with six rebounds. Southern Miss moves to 8-4 overall.

The Wildcats were led by DAMIAN LILLARD's 14 points and six rebounds. He was the only Wildcat in double figure scoring. Weber State is now 6-6 overall and will finish up the 2008-09 non-conference portion of the schedule next Monday, December 29 playing at the University of Arizona. Tip off vs. the Wildcats is set for 6:30 p.m. (MST) at the McKale Center.

Weber State begins 2008-09 Big Sky Conference play on Saturday, January 3, 2009 hosting Northern Colorado in a 7:05 p.m. (MST) tip inside the Dee Events Center.
