Wildcats Grab Win over MSU-Billings

NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah -- The Weber State University women's tennis team rebounded from an 0-2 road trip last week with a 6-1 home win over Montana State-Billings on Wednesday.
The Wildcats got an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles to start the day as Inalise Pienaar and Ashley Schapper defeated Heidi Lehman and Johanna Beatty 8-3, but the Yellowjackets earned the doubles point behind wins at No. 2 and 3.
The Wildcats rallied in singles play, sweeping the competition with five of the six positions ending in straight-sets. Pienaar downed Lehman in the top spot 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 for the tightest singles match of the day.
Ashley Schapper jumped out 5-2 over Anne Sophie Tredet in the first set and the match ended there, as Tredet retired due to injury. In the No. 3 spot, Greyce Farias downed Marta Borges 7-5, 6-1. At No. 4, Keya Adamson defeated Beatty 6-3, 6-1. Elsje Beneke, coming off an injury, won in her first singles action of the year with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Mollie McAlpine at No. 5. In the final position, Alyssia Pyne beat Victoria Fernandez 6-4, 6-0.
"We came out a little flat in the doubles matches and it cost us that point," said WSU head coach Jonas Ehrlin. "But the team regrouped well and really stepped it up in singles, winning all six matches."
