Wildcats Drop Season Opener to Aggies

Weber State dropped a 3-1 decision to Utah State Friday night in Ogden in the season opener for both teams. The Aggies picked up a 25-14, 21-25, 25-20, 25-14 win over the Wildcats on the first night of the Best Western Canyon Pines Weber State Invitational at the Swenson Gym.
The Wildcats got off to a rough start hitting just .080 in the first set, while Utah State hit .500 with 16 kills and just one error. WSU bounced back in the second set, but only hit .000, while the Aggies hit .-132. After dropping the third set the 'Cats held an 8-7 lead in the fourth set when Utah State went on a 9-0 run and finished the set on a 18-6 run to pick up the victory.
The 'Cats hit just .056 for the night with 35 kills and 28 hitting errors. Utah State had 13 more kills and hit .206. The Aggies also finished with 12 more digs and three more blocks than Weber State.
“It is a game of errors and we made too many tonight,” said WSU head coach Al Givens. “This one stings but I know we can bounce back tomorrow. We still have some work to do and we're still trying different options and what works best.”
Weber State was led by senior s Chelsea Bair and Jenna Leggat who both posted nine kills each, while Bair also added nine digs. Amy Fackrell had eight kills and Caitlyn Anderson posted 15 digs.
Weber State will play two matches of the four matches total Saturday at the Swenson Gym. Gonzaga will take on Utah State in the first match at 11:00 a.m. followed by Weber State and Utah Valley at 1:00 p.m. Utah State will play Utah Valley at 5:00 followed by the final match of Weber State and Gonzaga at 7:30 p.m.
