Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Weber State University women's basketball team went cold over the final 15 minutes of the first half and ultimately fell 66-54 to in-state rival Utah State on Saturday afternoon at the Dee Events Center.
Sophomore Amanda Hughes, making her first start of the season at center, had a career-high 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, notching her first collegiate double-double. It's the second straight game Hughes has finished with a career-high point total after scoring 16 on Utah on Nov. 16.
Senior forward Caitlin Anderson added 13 points for Weber State, which fell to 1-2 overall with the loss. Sophomore guard Megan Patterson added eight points and four rebounds for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats just 6-of-26 from the field (23.1 percent) in the first half and trailed by seven at the break. Weber State shot 54.2 percent in the second half, but wasn't able to overcome 24 turnovers - many of which were unforced errors.
Utah State turned Weber State's 24 turnovers in to 24 points, while the Wildcats managed just nine points off 18 Aggies' miscues.
Next up, Weber State will face Texas State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Colorado Springs, Colo., followed by Bryant on Saturday, Dec. 5.
