GREELEY, Colo. -- Northern Colorado's Whitley Cox scored 30 points to lead the Bears to a 75-68 win over the Wildcats on Saturday night at Butler-Hancock Arena.
Weber State trailed by only a point at halftime, and held a 47-46 lead with 10:53 to play. The Bears then went on an 11 to 2 run to go ahead by eight. The Wildcats would get no closer than five the rest of the way.
Tonya Schnibbe scored 19 points to lead Weber State, hitting 8 of 13 shots from the floor. Caitlin Anderson added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats, who shot 45.2 percent from the floor.
The 'Cats were undone by the Bears' ability to get to the free throw line, where they hit 26 of 34 attempts, compared to a 10 for 16 performance by WSU.
The 30 points by Cox came on 11 of 17 shooting from the field and 7 of 8 shooting from the free throw line. Cox led a 42-19 edge in bench scoring for the Bears. Lauren Oosdyke added 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for UNC.
The loss was extremely hurtful for the Wildcats' bid to earn a berth in the Big Sky Conference tournament. The 'Cats fell to 9-16 overall and 3-9 in the conference, while Northern Colorado improved to 12-13 overall and moved one game ahead of Weber State at 4-7 in league play. WSU is currently three games out of the final playoff spot, with only three games remaining on the schedule.
