'Cats suffer tough five-set loss to Seasiders

OGDEN, Utah - For two sets, everything worked for the Wildcats.
Unfortunately for the Weber State University women's volleyball team, nothing after that quite clicked.
Junior outside hitter Bethany Wray had a season-high 17 kills to lead the Wildcats, but Weber State came up short in falling 24-26, 18-25, 25-18, 25-16, 15-8 to BYU-Hawaii on Saturday night at Swenson Gym.
Junior Dama Cox added a career-high 13 kills for the Wildcats, who fell to 0-5 with the loss.
"I have to give a lot of credit to BYU-Hawaii," Weber State coach Tom Peterson said."Their ball control kept them in the match all the way, and then we just imploded and they took over.
"I was very displeased with a lot of things we did tonight. We played better against Utah and BYU than we did tonight."
Wray also finished with 10 digs, her first double-double of the season.
Weber State's blocking took a significant dip over recent efforts as the Wildcats finished with just seven and were outblocked for the first time since their season opener against Utah.
WSU also struggled to serve the ball, committing 12 service errors.
After a nail-biting first set that saw the Wildcats eke out a 26-24 win, Weber State appeared to take firm command of the match with a strong second set.
Hitting .481 and committing just three errors, WSU romped to a 25-18 set victory and 2-0 lead in the match.
It was all downhill from there.
Weber State had 25 attacking errors to match 25 kills, hitting .000 in the final three sets as the Seasiders rallied to claim the win. BYU-Hawaii hit .333 and .316 in commanding fourth and fifth set wins.
As a team, Weber State had a season-high 56 kills.
Next up for the Wildcats is in-state rival Utah State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Swenson Gym.
