SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Redshirt freshman outside hitter Rebecca Fuchs recorded her fourth double-double of the season, but it wasn't quite enough to power the Wildcats to a road win.
Fuchs finished with 14 kills and 10 digs for the Weber State University women's volleyball team, which fell 25-20, 25-15, 24-26, 25-19 to Sacramento State on Saturday night at the Hornet's Nest.
Fuchs added four blocks and three service aces for the Wildcats, while senior middle blocker Dama Cox had seven kills, and sophomore outside hitter Audrey Biggs recorded six kills.
Senior setter Caitlin Penrod had 27 assists and eight digs, senior libero Laurel Bodily added 12 digs and a service ace, and redshirt freshman middle blocker Audrey Gee had five blocks. It's the seventh time this season that Gee has recorded five or more blocks.
Weber State fell to 1-7 in Big Sky Conference play (7-12 overall), while Sacramento State improved to 2-6 in league action (6-11 overall).
The Hornets captured the first two sets to take a 2-0 lead in the match, but the Wildcats rallied in the third and scored four of the final five points to rally from a 23-22 deficit to make it 2-1.
The fourth set was tied at 9-9 before Sacramento State used a 7-1 surge to take a 16-10 lead. Weber State cut it to 16-23, but another 7-0 surge by the Hornets put the set - and the match - out of reach.
Weber State will return to action on Thursday night at 7 p.m. when they host Eastern Washington at Swenson Gym. The Eagles are 0-8 in Big Sky play and 0-19 overall. On Saturday, the Wildcats will host league-leading Portland State (8-0 BSC, 12-7).
