Wildcats fall in straight sets to Vikings

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Wildcats put up a solid road effort on Thursday night, but just didn't have an answer for the Vikings.
Redshirt freshman outside hitter Rebecca Fuchs had eight kills and junior middle blocker Briana Wilms added seven kills, but the Weber State University women's volleyball team fell 25-12, 25-22, 25-14 to Portland State at the Stott Center in Big Sky Conference action.
Wilms also hit .778 and had a pair of block assists for Weber State, which fell to 3-16 in Big Sky play (10-21 overall).
Senior setter Caitlin Penrod had 23 assists, three digs and a solo block, while senior libero Laurel Bodily had 12 digs. Senior right side hitter Dama Cox had three service aces.
Portland State surged out to large leads in the first and third sets, but Weber State fought valiantly in a tight second set. The Wildcats battled the Vikings to a 19-19 scoreline late, but Portland State scored three straight to go up 22-19. Weber State rallied to get within 23-22, but the Vikings closed it out to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Weber State will wrap up its 2012 season on Saturday at Eastern Washington. The Eagles defeated league-leading Idaho State 3-1 on Thursday night and are 5-14 in Big Sky play (5-25 overall).
