OGDEN, Utah - The Wildcats started out ice cold and things didn't get a whole lot better from there.

The Weber State University women's basketball team converted just one of its first 18 shots from the field as Utah stormed out to an early lead and cruised to a 73-47 victory in non-conference women's basketball action at the Dee Events Center on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman forward Jalen Carpenter tallied a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Wildcats.

Senior forward Amanda Hughes and freshman guard Grace Farnsworth each added eight points, and freshman guard Regina Okoye had six points and eight rebounds.

Weber State fell to 0-5 with the loss, and suffered its 24th consecutive setback dating back last season.

Michelle Plouffe had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Utes, while Taryn Wicijowski added 16 points for Utah.

Utah improved to 5-0 with the road win.

The Utes took advantage of the Wildcats early scoring woes, racing out to a 22-2 lead.
Weber State trailed 35-18 at halftime after shooting just 21.6 percent from the field, but cut the Utah lead to 15 twice in the second half. That's as close as the Wildcats would come, however, as the Utes pushed their lead back out to as many as 30 before settling for the final margin.

Weber State will return to action on Tuesday against the University of New Mexico at The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M.
