OGDEN, Utah - The Weber State University women's volleyball team put on a spirited effort on Saturday afternoon, but came up a little short.
Redshirt freshman Rebecca Fuchs had 12 kills to lead the Wildcats, who fell 25-17, 25-16, 28-26 to defending Big Sky Conference champion Northern Colorado in league action at Swenson Gym.
Fuchs was the only player for either team to reach double figures kills, doing so for the eighth time this season.
Freshman setter Whitney Hunt had a career high 17 assists, while senior libero Laurel Bodily had 12 digs, and senior middle blocker Dama Cox had six kills for the Wildcats.
Northern Colorado was led by Kelley Arnold and Andrea Spaustat, who each had nine kills.
The Wildcats and Bears battled early in the first two sets, but Northern Colorado pulled away to win each and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Bears appeared to be pulling away in the third set and took a 24-21 lead, but the Wildcats rallied with five straight points to take a 25-24 lead. NC scored the next two points to go back ahead 26-25, but WSU pulled into a 26-26 tie after a service error.
Northern Colorado closed out the match with a kill by Spaustat and a Weber State attacking error.
Weber State returns to action on Friday, Sept. 28 against the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont.
