Volleyball beats Bears, sweeps season series

OGDEN, Utah - The Weber State volleyball team won a thrilling five-set match over Northern Colorado on Friday night, taking the final set by a score of 15-13.

The two teams traded set wins on the night, with the Cats winning the first, third and fifth sets while the Bears won the second and fourth sets.

The Wildcats were led by Audrey Biggs who had 19 kills in the match. The Wildcats got pretty deep contribution in the match as well, with Megan Bean picking up 15 kills, Rebecca Fuchs adding 11 and Audrey Hunter picking up nine. Both teams finished with 63 total kills.

Whitney Hunt racked up 54 assists in the match for the Wildcats while Ashley Guthrie had 50 for Northern Colorado.

There weren't many runs or lead changes in the five-set match. There were seven total lead changes and 22 total tie scores. Ten of the 22 tie scores came in a back-and-forth third match.

In the fifth and final set, there was a little tension at the end when Northern Colorado made a push after getting behind big early in the set.

The Wildcats led 8-3 early in the set, but the Bears crawled back to within a 14-12 deficit before the Cats were able to put Northern Colorado away on an Audrey Hunter kill.

Weber State will be in action again Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Swenson Gym when the Cats host North Dakota.
