Berry's 21 leads Wildcats to win over SUU

OGDEN, Utah - Davion Berry had 21 points to lead Weber State to a 75-58 win over in-state rival and new Big Sky member Southern Utah Saturday night at the Dee Events Center. The Wildcats shot 53 percent from the field and held the Thunderbirds to just 29 percent shooting.
With the win the 'Cats improve to 16-5 overall and 11-2 in Big Sky play, still second in the league standings. The Thunderbirds remain in third place with an 8-6 conference mark.
SUU held a 5-4 lead when Weber State scored five straight points and never trailed again. The 'Cats shot 60 percent from the field in the first half and led by as many as 13 points. Berry had 13 of his points in the first half. Weber State continued its strong play in the second half and the Thunderbirds never got closer than nine points.
For the game Weber State was 25-47 from the field and was 11-20 from three-point land. SUU was 16-55 from the field for a season-low 29 percent shooting and was just 3-11 from three-point range. The Wildcats also outrebounded the Thunderbirds 39-33.
Berry finished the night 7-13 shooting, including 4-7 from three-point range. He also had six rebounds, five assists and two steals on the night.
Jordan Richardson tied a season-high with 15 points and Scott Bamforth also added 15 with seven rebounds, along with four assists. Kyle Tresnak had eight points and tied his season-high of nine rebounds.
"Our defense was very strong tonight and we came out with good energy," said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. "Davion stepped up early and got off to a really good start and gave us all some confidence and we continued with a good effort on defense."
The Wildcats will continue their four-game homestand Monday night when they host Idaho State at 7:00. That game will be televised nationally on Altitude 2.
